Building 21 Philadelphia is a Lab School with the Building 21 Network as well as a non-criteria high school with the School District of Philadelphia.

Dear Building 21 Students and Families,

We hope you are enjoying your summer! On behalf of the Building 21 Community, I welcome you to the 24-25 school year! This letter includes important information regarding school expectations and procedures, start times, and schedules. Please ensure that you read carefully.  Feel free to reach out with any questions.  In addition, we would like to invite you to Building 21’s Back-To-School Night on Thursday, September 19th from 5:00-7:00.

We are so excited to see you back on August 26th! The start times below are ONLY for the first day of school. Please note the start times below for your child based on grade:

Orientation is for Parents/Guardians and Students and will take place at 6501 Limekiln Pike on:

August 19th 11:00AM to 1:00PM

2024-2025 Regular School Schedule

Entry Begins-7:45 am
Start Time- 8:15 am (any student entering after 8:15 am will be marked late)
End Time- 3:19

Wednesday
Entry Begins- 7:45
Start Time- 8:15 am (any student entering after 8:15 am will be marked late)
Lunch/Dismissal 12:50-1:19 (This is a grab-and-go lunch, students are free to leave after they grab lunch)

Important Policies and Procedures

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not permitted at Building21.

Students have the option of either leaving it at home or handing the phone in for the day. If a student/parent does not want the phone to be collected by the school administration, the student should not bring the phone into the building.  Phones will be collected by advisory during morning entry and distributed at the end of the day.

Dress Code
Students are not required to wear a Building 21 uniform. They are, however, expected to adhere to common practices of modesty, cleanliness, and neatness; and to dress in a respectful manner within the acceptable standards of the community. The uniform guidelines are below:

SHIRTS & BLOUSES:

  • Crop tops, tube tops, halters, and spaghetti straps are unacceptable (anything less than 2 inches is considered a spaghetti strap.)  Strapless dresses without jackets are unacceptable.
  • Low-cut blouses, tops, sweaters, etc. with plunging necklines are not allowed.
  • Transparent and/or see-through material is considered unacceptable.  Shirts/tops must touch the waist of pants/shirts at all times (i.e. when in movement, when arms are extended or raised, and when in seated positions, etc.)

PANTS, DRESS, SKIRTS, SHORTS & SKORTS:

  • Intentionally torn or cut/ripped-up pants that are considered indecent exposure are inappropriate.
  • The length of a skirt/dress must be to the longest fingertips when the student’s hand is fully extended down the side of the student’s leg.
  • Form-fitting garments such as spandex, tights, leggings, etc. may only be worn with another layer of clothing over the top, which meets the dress code
  • Pajamas and flannel pants are inappropriate.
  • OTHER UNIFORM RESTRICTIONS
  • Any clothing, accessories, symbols, jewelry, or other paraphernalia, that depicts or suggests association with a gang or inappropriate language or symbolism, shall not be brought to school, worn at school, or in any way be present at any school-sponsored event.
  • Flip Flops, slides or slippers are NOT acceptable. Students MUST wear shoes that have back support.
